PITTSBURGH– A Pennsylvania man who tried to buy Viagra on the black market after buying it without a prescription has been spared what he described as a “life-threatening incident” in which he died. The man, John Smith, 64, was arrested in Philadelphia after a tip-off. He had planned to go to the local hospital, and the incident occurred in May of 2015.
Saul Johnson, a pharmacist and spokesman for the local Community Pharmacy chain, said the man had purchased Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs without a prescription. “He had contacted a local pharmacy and was getting it without a prescription,” Johnson told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “He knew he was purchasing them from a competitor and that the pharmacy was selling them to him.”
Johnson had purchased the medication from a local online pharmacy that was selling the drugs without a prescription. In a statement to The Inquirer, Johnson said: “We were very concerned that the man had contacted the pharmacy and was getting it without a prescription, and that he had not been properly vetted by us.”
The pharmacy, which has not been listed as a defendant in the case, said it had been contacted by the customer’s family and that it was not aware of the man’s identity. However, the statement said the pharmacy was selling the drugs without a prescription.
Johnson told The Inquirer that he was not in possession of the Viagra, but was taking it with a prescription from a doctor. He said that on May 26, 2015, he told his family he had bought the pills without a prescription. “It was a good deal. I was very happy to see the positive results.”
Johnson said that the man had told his family that he was buying the pills and was getting them from a pharmacy. The prescription did not list a doctor’s name, but the customer’s name. The customer’s family, who have not been involved in the case, said the customer’s information is confidential.
Johnson, who was in a coma for four years, was not in any condition to speak to the press. He said he was on dialysis and taking medication to help his condition. He said he had been diagnosed with diabetes and had been taking Viagra for years.

He said he had been prescribed the drugs to help his condition, which he was on dialysis. His doctor, Dr. John F. Kennedy of the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, had told him that the drugs were not effective.
“He said that he would try to get him to do something else,” Johnson said. “I said to him, ‘Okay, I’ll try to do something else.’”
In June 2015, the Philadelphia Police Department announced it was investigating the incident and that the man was in possession of the drugs. However, the investigation was not complete and the man did not have any prescription, prescription or identification numbers, the statement said.
